U14 NATIONAL SUCCESS

U14 NATIONAL SUCCESS
20th September 2021

Chester Netball u14 regional squad returned from this week’s National Club Finals as Runners up, proudly claiming the status of being recognised as the second best netball team in the country in their age group.

The top 18 teams in England were competing at the event, held over two days at Birmingham University.

An excellent first day saw Chester winning all of their matches to guarantee a top six finish going into the second day.

The placing from the other group matches, would see them face Eagles Netball Club from Berskshire and Poole Netball Club from Dorset, with the overall winners of that group earning a place in the final.

The opening match in the group saw Poole defeat Eagles 18-14. After an anxious wait, Chester also faced Eagles in their first game and after nervy, error strewn display by Chester, they were narrowly defeated 21-19.

This meant that Chester faced an uphill struggle, knowing that they would need to beat Poole and then rely on their goal average to place them top of the league. An excellent display saw Chester run out 24-19 winners in what turned out to be an ultra-competitive group.

The event officials then performed the calculations to establish the final standings and there were jubilant scenes amongst the Chester squad and supporters as the announcement was made that they had earned themselves a place in the final.

Oldham Netball Club topped the other group, which meant it would be all North West final confirming the high standard of netball within our region.

Favourites Oldham ran out worthy winners with a 34-21 victory, but this did not take anything away from Chester’s achievements over an emotional and memorable weekend.
